関係副詞：when

関係副詞whenは、先行詞が時間を表す名詞で、かつ、関係代名詞が副詞句の一部になっているとき用いられる。関係副詞whenは省略されることもある。

• 2001 is the year (when) we enter the twenty-first century.
• = 2001 is the year in which we enter the twenty first century.
  • 2001年は、我々が21世紀を迎える年だ。

whenが先行詞を含んで名詞節（･･･する時）を導くこともある。

• A week from today is when our school festival is to take place.
  • 来週の今日、私たちの学校の学園祭が開催されます。

先行詞とwhen以下が次のように離れることもある。

• The time will soon come when every one of us uses a computer.
  • 私たちの誰もがコンピュータを使う時代がまもなくやってくるだろう。
